Imago
multimedia dance performance
Imago is one of the interesting new instances of contemporary dance in Bulgaria. It is the first independent choreopraphy project of Violeta Vitanova and Stanislav Genadiev.
Violeta Vitanova and Stanislav Genadiev graduated Classical Ballet from the National School of Dance. Stanislav’s career as dancer begins in Arabesk ballet in 2001 and in 2004 he joins Linga, a Swiss dance company. Violeta is also involved with Linga in their piece Cicatrice. In Exit, a production of Sfumato, where both Violeta and Stanislav dance, the latter is also assistant to the choreographers Katarzyna Gdaniec and Marco Cantalupo (art directors of Linga).
In Biology, the imago is the last stage of development of an insect. The term is also employed by K.G. Jung, the Swiss psychiatrist and influental thinker, to descirbe the way in which human person develops through identification with images from the collective unconscious.
The performance, an apt combination of music, dance and visuals, presents a similar journey of the bodies in search of images and experience that have made their mark deep into the mind.
Awards: Ikar 2007 of the Union of Bulgarian Artists
