"Izrael from the inside"
The Month of the Documentary Film
Pork and Milk
(documentary, dir. Valerie Mrejen, 2004, 52 min.)
Shot in Tel Aviv, the film deals with people who, coming from ultraorthodox religious milieus, have decided to become secular. For the larger part of them, that choice is a synonym of breaking the ties with their families and a total denunciation by the community.
Moreover, they have to adapt to a new society where they have to start learning everything.
Poisoned
(Directors Hila & Peretz Markish, Israel, 31 min.)
Presented by Student Film Forum
Audience Award, International Students Festival of Film Art Balchik, 2004
Zvi a young officer in the Israeli defense Force (IDF) and his girlfriend Khen are on their way to a “rave” in the desert. While walking through the desert they meet Krishna a hippie like guy, who is also on his way to the same party. The hallucinatory journey of these three characters brings out the stereotypes of young people in the current Israeli reality and deals with one of its most revered institution, the military service.
The screenings is followed by a discussion on youth and religious issues..
In French, with English subtitles.
